How to Hide During a Break-In in PREHISTORIC
Hide in a spot named by the HIDE! objective, stay quiet until the animals leave, and secure broken windows after the all-clear.
Quick answer
When a dinosaur breaks into your house in PREHISTORIC, go to a spot named by the HIDE! banner—the pantry, a closet, or under the stairs—and press E to hide. Stay quiet until the message 'The animals left your residence' appears, then secure broken windows.
- Your noise level appears on the right side of the screen; running makes noise.
What happens when a break-in starts
An urgent break-in broadcast tells you to hide immediately, make no sound, and remain hidden until the animal has left. It also warns not to stay hidden longer than necessary and says the animals find people by smell.
In one break-in, the HIDE! objective named the pantry, a closet, or under the stairs, and a dinosaur then patrolled through the house. Head for one of the spots the banner gives you.

How to hide
- Go to a named hide spot immediately. The HIDE! banner points you to the pantry, a closet, or under the stairs. Move quietly: running makes noise.
- Press E to hide. E is the Interact / Hide control. Use it at the hide spot.
- Stay hidden and silent. The break-in broadcast says to make no sound and remain hidden until the animal has left. It also says not to stay hidden longer than you must.
Staying quiet during an intrusion
Your noise level is visible on the right side of the screen, and running makes noise. Keep it low as you move to a hiding place. An intrusion warning says the animal hunts by sound and will not stay long if it finds nothing; the break-in broadcast also warns that animals find people by smell.
Other warnings give advice for specific situations:
- If an animal is near a window: Stay away from the glass. The game warns, “If you can see them through the glass, they can see you.”
- If an animal sees you or is looking in: Do not move. Remain still until it loses interest.
- If you hear an animal on the roof: Do not make a sound; the warning says it listens to the ceiling.
- If animals are breaking in nearby: Lock your front and back doors. The warning says a locked door will slow an animal down, although it will not stop it.
When is it safe to come out?
Wait for the message:
The animals left your residence. Secure all broken windows at once.

The message signals that the animals have left and it is safe to act again. Come out and secure the broken windows as instructed. For more on locking doors and boarding windows, see the PREHISTORIC beginner guide.
The wait has two boundaries: do not come out before the animal has left, and do not stay hidden longer than necessary. PREHISTORIC's survival advice sums up the broader goal: “Hide when they get in, stay quiet, and make it to sunrise.”
